A quick note: I have quitted the Job with France after the Friendly in the beginning of February. I was not enjoying it.
Our 2017-2018 season began with Arsenal conquering two Super Cups, the UEFA and the English ones. We played against Chelsea on the Community Shield, and after a tight match, we lifted for the second time in a row the trophy. The UEFA Super Cup trophy was also retained after a good win against French Lille. The game was a bit easier than the one against Chelsea. Although we lost a few important names from the past seasons, I’m definitely sure that we can have another great season. We might not be so dominant as the past two seasons, but the players are used to their roles, and the youngsters that are appearing are used to serve as reserves and backups, so we will have good display!
Even with us conquering the league in the past two seasons, the medias’ opinion doesn’t see us fighting for our third consecutive league win! Though we are touted to be among the favourites. As I have sold quite a few players, I only assumed with the board to challenge for the title.
There where no more transfers made, though I did release Ashley Young, who went awol after we discussed his role in the squad. Unhappy at being only a backup, we broke up, and off and we agreed a mutual release with no compensation.
Our kick off into the EPL 17-18 Season was not the best. By the end of september, a poor 7th place. With 3 ties and only two wins in five games. We are still undefeated, now for over 80 games in the Premier League! The opening game was a real stormer over Ipswich. The 5×0 victory showed our great form would be followed by the younger players to be tested on a regular starting role. But the next rounds a double tie, where we allowed the opponents to tie the game at the end of the game, and had not enough time to go for a second goal. Against Everton, we had to fight for 90 minutes for the turnover. Everton opened the scoreboard in the first ten minutes. Happily we still have Pato, and the Brazilian made sure to score twice in the last 20 minutes of game!
Not the best of the starts, but still to early to say that I made a huge mistake selling out important players.
We were drawn in what I believe to be a hard group. Juventus has a good team, and great victorious history. Shakhtar is also a strong team, and growing reputation. Standard is the weakest side, but not to be completely forgotten. I’m very sure I will fight for the first place of the group with Juventus, and the Ukrainians are there to fight for any slip from Arsenal or Juventus.
Our opening game was against Juventus! And a great way to start the Champions League Campaign, a 2×1 win. This will give us a good morale boost.
Charlton gave me a hard 120 minutes battle at our own ground. But we managed to score with Leandro Damião the third goal, keeping alive our chances of disputing the Carling Cup.
Here we go with the stats of this period.
